The Short Answer
Buy the enclosure whose interior fits a box about 1.5 times your cat's nose-to-tail-base length, the size AAFP/ISFM recommends. The Amunrbrek Extra Large enclosure has the roomiest interior here and a 13.8-inch-wide cat opening that installs on either side. The MEEXPAWS bench fits the longest box, the Feandrea end table is the flexible single-box pick, and the ONBRILL double-room cabinet is the two-cat option. Any enclosure holds odor on the cat's side, so scoop often.
Every product on this list has been scored against the PetPal Gear Score, a weighted composite of expert consensus, observed effectiveness, animal safety, long-term durability, and value. Review method: Editorial synthesis of the 2014 AAFP/ISFM Guidelines for Diagnosing and Solving House-Soiling Behavior in Cats, the Cornell Feline Health Center, VCA Animal Hospitals and ASPCA litter-box guidance, plus New Age Pet's own product page, read against manufacturer-supplied Amazon listing specifications checked September 28-29, 2026. Rankings follow the published PetPal Litter Enclosure Fit Score weights. No first-hand product testing.. Synthesized from 4+ expert sources.
Litter box furniture solves a human problem: the box is in the living room and nobody wants to look at it. Whether it also works for the cat depends mostly on one number: the interior. The 2014 AAFP/ISFM house-soiling guidelines recommend a rectangular box about 1.5 times the length of the cat from nose to base of tail, and they cite a study in which adult cats preferred a 34-by-15-inch box over a smaller one. An enclosure can only hold a box as big as its inside, so a handsome cabinet with a cramped compartment turns a good box into a small covered one.
That matters because the veterinary sources are cautious about covers. AAFP/ISFM reports that cats are equally divided between large covered boxes and uncovered ones, so an enclosure is not a lost cause, but it warns that small covered boxes may make it hard for larger cats to posture normally. Cornell adds that covers hold odors in from the cat's point of view. VCA flags the exit of a covered pan as an ambush point when other cats share the house, and the ASPCA says cats like multiple escape routes.
So this guide ranks enclosures on what they do, read from their listings: interior size first, then the cat's way in and out, then ventilation, moisture resistance and cleaning access, then how well the piece works as furniture and what it costs. Seven enclosures made the cut, from a two-in-one cat tree to a cabinet big enough for an automatic box.
These picks are editorial synthesis. PetPalHQ does not run a testing lab; every product was chosen by reading manufacturer-supplied Amazon listings against AAFP/ISFM, Cornell, VCA and ASPCA guidance. Prices change, so check the current price on Amazon before you buy.
What Should You Measure Before Buying an Enclosure?
Three things, in order. First the cat, from the nose to the base of the tail. Multiply by 1.5 and you have the box length AAFP/ISFM recommends. Then the box you plan to use, including the rim. Then the enclosure's interior, not its outside dimensions. The box has to fit inside with room for the cat to step in, turn and dig.
Four picks here list an interior with a longest side of 27 inches or more: the Amunrbrek, the MEEXPAWS bench, the unipaws cabinet, and the Feandrea end table with its divider out. If you still need to choose the box itself, Best Standard Litter Boxes for Cats ranks pans by usable size.
What Does an Enclosure Cost the Cat?
Mostly air and escape routes. Cornell's point is that a cover improves the room's air and worsens the cat's, and VCA says covered pans may hold in odors that are associated with infrequent cleaning. Ventilation holes help at the margin; the Amunrbrek, the ONBRILL cabinet and the unipaws cabinet all have them on the back. The real fix is a scoop, used often. For accidents that have already soaked in, our odor remover guide covers the enzyme cleaners.
The exit is the other cost. The ASPCA notes that cats like to see animals approaching and like multiple escape routes, and a cabinet with one doorway gives them neither. In a single-cat home that is usually fine. In a multi-cat home, read How to Set Up Litter Boxes for Multiple Cats before you hide every box behind a door.

- Interior 27.5"L x 24.8"W x 30"H; overall 31.5"L x 26.8"W x 34.8"H
- 13.8"W x 21.7"H cat opening, installs on the left or right side
- Rear ventilation holes; front double doors on soft-close stainless steel hinges
- Waterproof, scratch-resistant particle board; top supports up to 150 lbs
- 2-year manufacturer warranty
An enclosure can only hold a box as long as its own interior, and the Amunrbrek has the roomiest one on this page: 27.5"L x 24.8"W x 30"H inside. That is the number that matters, because the AAFP/ISFM house-soiling guidelines recommend a rectangular box about 1.5 times the cat's length from nose to the base of the tail. Amunrbrek sells the cabinet as housing for self-cleaning and automatic boxes, and it will take many of them, but the same space fits a large open pan for a big cat. This guide ranks the furniture, not the machine inside it.
The cat's doorway is generous too. The side opening is 13.8 inches wide and 21.7 inches tall, 6 inches wider than the MEEXPAWS door, and it can be installed on the left or right to suit the room. Rear ventilation holes, front double doors on soft-close stainless steel hinges for the owner's side of the job, a top rated to 150 lbs and a 2-year warranty round out the listing.
Size and money are the costs. Overall the cabinet stands 34.8 inches tall, closer to a sideboard than an end table, and at $199.99 it is the biggest outlay on this page. The opening is still a single way in and out. The ASPCA notes that cats like to see people or other animals approaching and like multiple escape routes, so in a home where one cat guards doorways, face the opening toward open floor rather than a wall.
What We Love
- Roomiest interior on this page, wide and tall enough for a large pan or an automatic box
- A 13.8-inch-wide, 21.7-inch-tall cat opening
- Opening installs on either side to fit the room
- Rear ventilation holes, soft-close owner doors and a top rated to 150 lbs
- 2-year manufacturer warranty
What Could Be Better
- At 34.8 inches tall overall, it is the tallest cabinet here
- One cat opening, so a cat has a single way out
- $199.99 is the largest outlay on this page
The Verdict
Buy the Amunrbrek when interior space is the whole brief — a big cat, a big pan or an automatic box you already own — and you have the floor for a sideboard-sized cabinet.

- Interior L33.5 × W17.7 × H17.7 in; exterior L35.4 x W19.7 x H19.7 in
- Door W7.8 × H11.8 in
- Waterproof interior material
- Weight capacity maximum 200 pounds; material PVC leather and MDF board, per the Product Details table
- Foldable ottoman design that assembles in a few minutes
- Litter box not included
Length is the reason to look at the MEEXPAWS bench. Its listing puts the interior at L33.5 × W17.7 × H17.7 inches, the longest interior on this page and about half an inch short of the 34-by-15-inch box that adult cats preferred in the study AAFP/ISFM cites. A full 34-inch pan will not go in, but a long rectangular box for a long cat will, and at $69.99 it is a modest price for that much length.
The door is the catch. MEEXPAWS lists it at W7.8 × H11.8 inches, 6 inches narrower than the Amunrbrek's 13.8-inch opening, which makes it a tight way in for a big cat and a single way out. Measure your cat's shoulders before you measure the box.
Inside, the listing says the lining is waterproof and easy to clean when a cat misses the box. The product name promises odor control, and the listing presents the bench itself as "a good solution for hiding the litter box and ugly smell"; Cornell's reminder is that covers hold odors in from the cat's side. It is sold as a foldable ottoman. The Product Details table names the material as "Leather, PVC Leather / MDF Board" and lists a 200-pound weight capacity maximum, and the listing warns in capitals that no litter box is included.
What We Love
- Longest interior here, close to the box length in the AAFP/ISFM-cited study
- Waterproof interior lining, per the listing
- Assembles in a few minutes, per the listing
- 200-pound weight capacity maximum, per the Product Details table
What Could Be Better
- 7.8-inch-wide door is a narrow single opening for a large cat
- Odor control rests on the enclosure itself, which holds odor in on the cat's side
The Verdict
Pick the MEEXPAWS bench when a long box matters more than a wide doorway, and check that your cat fits through the door before you order.

- 19.8" x 19.8" x 18.3" compartment with the divider in
- 29.7" x 19.8" x 18.3" with the divider removed
- Top max load 132 lb with the divider, 22 lb without
- Rustic finish with barn doors
- Assembles within 20 minutes, with labeled parts
- Particleboard and MDF build with a 2-year warranty, per the Product Details table
Two interiors in one piece of furniture is the Feandrea end table's selling point. With the divider in place the litter compartment is 19.8" x 19.8" x 18.3"; take the divider out and the space opens to 29.7" x 19.8" x 18.3". The small setting suits a small cat or a compact box. For a larger cat, the long setting matters, because AAFP/ISFM warns that small covered boxes may make it difficult for larger cats to posture normally.
The divider also holds up the top: the maximum load on the top changes from 132 lb to 22 lb once the divider comes out. Anything heavier than 22 lb on the tabletop needs the divider left in, which means the smaller compartment. The listing's Product Details table shows a different figure, a 66-pound weight capacity maximum, so plan around the smaller numbers.
Barn doors and a rustic finish make it read as an end table rather than a litter box, and Feandrea says it goes together within 20 minutes with labeled parts. The Product Details table names the material as "Particleboard, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)" and lists a 2 Year warranty. Cornell's point that covers hold odors in applies to any closed cabinet, so the fix is scooping often.
What We Love
- Two compartment sizes in one piece, set by a removable divider
- Removing the divider gives a long compartment for a larger box
- Top rated to 132 lb with the divider in
- Barn-door end-table styling; assembles within 20 minutes, per the listing
- 2-year warranty, per the Product Details table
What Could Be Better
- With the divider in, the 19.8-inch compartment only suits a small cat or compact box
- Top load drops to 22 lb with the divider removed, and the Product Details table lists a 66-pound weight capacity maximum
The Verdict
Choose the Feandrea end table for a single cat when you want one cabinet that can be set small or long, and leave the divider out unless the tabletop has to carry real weight.

- Double-room cabinet for two cats to use at the same time
- Internal dimensions 22" L x 18.5" W x 18.9" H
- Magnetic double doors; dual-entry design
- Four small ventilation holes on the back
- Weight capacity 200LBS
The ONBRILL cabinet is built for a household with two cats and one wall to spare. ONBRILL calls it a double-room litter house that lets two cats use it at the same time, and it gives internal dimensions of 22" L x 18.5" W x 18.9" H. ONBRILL gives those as the "internal dimensions of the litter box enclosure" on a 59-inch-long double-room cabinet, so confirm the per-room size with the seller before buying two large boxes for it. Magnetic double doors handle the scooping side, four small holes on the back help with odor, and the top is rated at 200LBS, enough to use it as a TV stand.
The listing also describes a dual-entry design for easy access, ventilation and light. That matters more in a multi-cat home than anywhere else. AAFP/ISFM warns that despot cats may prevent timid cats from accessing or exiting the litter box, and VCA notes that a covered pan may let other cats ambush a cat as it exits. Two rooms side by side are still one location. A dominant cat can watch both at once.
Treat it as a tidy way to hide two boxes, not as the whole multi-cat plan. The listing also says it keeps dogs out of the litter, which is a real plus in a mixed household.
What We Love
- Two litter rooms in one cabinet, for two cats at the same time
- Dual-entry design and four rear ventilation holes
- Magnetic double doors for scooping access
- Top rated at 200LBS for use as a TV stand or side table
- Keeps dogs out of the litter, per the listing
What Could Be Better
- The 22-inch interior length is listed for the enclosure, so the per-room size needs confirming with the seller
- Both rooms sit in one spot, where a dominant cat can control access to both
The Verdict
Buy the ONBRILL cabinet when two cats share a room and neither guards the box, and confirm the per-room interior with the seller before you pick the boxes.

- ECOFLEX recycled wood-polymer composite that repels moisture
- Flip-down front door; storage shelf beneath on the Jumbo
- Jumbo size listed as 30" × 24" × 28.9"
- Tool-free assembly
- 10-year manufacturer warranty
New Age Pet makes the material its main selling point. Its product page says the Litter Loo is "Made with ECOFLEX®, a durable and long-lasting wood plastic composite", and it calls the material "Moisture resistant for superior odor control and easy cleaning". The Amazon listing adds a flip-down front door, a storage shelf beneath for scoops and liners on the Jumbo, tool-free assembly, and a 10-year warranty, the longest stated on this page.
Fit is where to slow down. The listing gives the Jumbo's size as 30" × 24" × 28.9", and the Product Details table repeats 30"L x 24"W x 28.9"H as its product dimensions, so those figures describe the whole piece. On the box, New Age Pet's own line is that it "Fits most standard and large size litter pans", and the Product Details table says it "Fits high-sided litter pans". Measure your pan against those figures before you order.
It ranks fifth on this page's weights. Its Interior Fit score of 6 comes from the maker's statement that it fits most standard and large pans, and its moisture-resistant composite, flip-down door, tool-free assembly and 10-year warranty score higher on cleaning and furniture features than the unipaws cabinet below it. At $158.19 it suits a household that puts a moisture-resistant build first.
What We Love
- ECOFLEX composite that the maker says repels moisture
- Maker says it fits most standard and large size litter pans, including high-sided ones
- Storage shelf beneath for litter supplies
- Tool-free assembly
- 10-year warranty, the longest stated on this page
What Could Be Better
- 30"L x 24"W x 28.9"H is the Jumbo's overall size, so pan fit rests on the maker's statement
- $158.19 is the third-highest price on this page
The Verdict
Choose the Litter Loo when a moisture-resistant build matters most, and check your pan against its 30-inch overall length and the maker's fit statement before ordering.

- Cat tree and litter box enclosure in one corner footprint
- 21.7" x 16.1" x 15.7" compartment behind doors
- Particleboard with natural sisal scratching posts
- Removable, washable cushions; wipe-clean veneered surface
This one is for a corner, not for a big cat. The Feandrea cat tree stacks climbing posts and lounging spots on top of a litter cabinet, so a small apartment gets both in one footprint. The listing's greige-and-white finish and natural sisal posts are built to look like furniture, the cushions come off for washing, and the veneered surface wipes clean.
The compartment is the limit. Behind the doors it measures 21.7" x 16.1" x 15.7", the smallest interior on this page and the lowest ceiling. Divide that length by the AAFP/ISFM 1.5x ratio and the box that fits suits only a small cat, and the same guidelines warn that small covered boxes may make it difficult for larger cats to posture normally.
For a kitten or a petite adult in a studio, it is a sensible space saver. For anything larger, one of the cabinets above holds a box the cat can actually turn around in.
What We Love
- Cat tree and litter cabinet share one corner footprint
- Natural sisal posts for scratching
- Removable, washable cushions and a wipe-clean surface
What Could Be Better
- Smallest interior and lowest ceiling on this page
- Compartment length suits a box for a small cat only, by the AAFP/ISFM ratio
The Verdict
Buy the Feandrea cat tree for a small cat in a small home, where one footprint doing two jobs is worth a compact litter compartment.

How We Score
Formula
PetPal Litter Enclosure Fit Score = (Interior Fit × 0.30) + (Entry and Exit × 0.20) + (Odor and Cleaning Access × 0.20) + (Furniture Fit × 0.15) + (Value × 0.15), each factor scored 0-10 and the total rounded to one decimal, halves up; every pick's factor scores are listed in the comparison table
Score Factors
- Interior Fit · 30%
- How much box the enclosure holds, measured against the box a cat needs: AAFP/ISFM recommends a rectangular box about 1.5 times the cat's nose-to-tail-base length, and warns that small covered boxes may make it hard for larger cats to posture. Scored 9 for the Amunrbrek, the roomiest in every direction and sized for automatic boxes; 8 for an interior with a long side of 29 inches or more; 7 for 27 to 29 inches; 6 for the Litter Loo, which the maker says fits most standard and large pans inside a 30-inch-long piece; 5 for 22 to 27 inches; and 3 under 22 inches. Weighted highest because an enclosure can only hold a box as big as its inside.
- Entry and Exit · 20%
- The cat's way in and out, credited for the entry features a listing states. The ASPCA says cats like to see approaching animals and have multiple escape routes, and VCA and AAFP/ISFM both flag the exit as the risk point in multi-cat homes. Scored 7 for a large opening (13 inches wide or more) that installs on either side, 5 for a dual-entry design, 4 for a door under 8 inches wide, and 3 as the baseline for the other picks.
- Odor and Cleaning Access · 20%
- Features that let air out, keep spills from soaking in, or let the owner reach the box. Cornell says covers hold odors in and VCA ties covered-pan odor to infrequent cleaning, so anything that makes scooping easier or lets air out earns credit. From a baseline of 3: ventilation holes add 2, a waterproof or moisture-resistant material adds 2, owner-side doors add 1, and a surface the listing calls easy to clean or wipe-clean adds 1.
- Furniture Fit · 15%
- How well the piece works as furniture. From a baseline of 4: a top rated to 150 lb or more adds 2 (100 to 149 lb adds 1), a 10-year warranty adds 2 (2 years adds 1), assembly in an hour or less or without tools adds 1, and a height under 25 inches, low enough to sit beside a sofa or bed, adds 1.
- Value · 15%
- The Amazon current price shown on each card (checked September 28, 2026; MEEXPAWS September 29, 2026), weighed against what the enclosure does. $60.23 scores 9, $69.99 scores 8, $89.99 scores 6 and $99.99 scores 5. The three cabinets from $158.19 to $199.99 score 4, plus 1 for the ONBRILL, which houses two boxes for its price. Weighted below interior and entry because a cheaper enclosure the cat will not use saves nothing.

When NOT to Buy
The veterinary sources here are wary of covers: Cornell says covers hold odors in from the cat's side, and AAFP/ISFM reports cats split evenly between large covered and uncovered boxes, so adding a cover is not a documented fix. Skip every pick here if your current box is already too small for your cat; choose the right box first in Best Standard Litter Boxes for Cats, then buy furniture whose interior fits it. In a multi-cat home where one cat already blocks the box, a single-opening cabinet or a two-room unit in one spot can make that worse, since AAFP/ISFM warns that despot cats may prevent timid cats from accessing or exiting the litter box; How to Set Up Litter Boxes for Multiple Cats covers placement. And if you are really shopping for an automatic box, the enclosure is the second purchase: Best Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes for Large and Multi-Cat Homes covers the machine.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How big should the inside of a litter box enclosure be?
- Big enough for a box about 1.5 times your cat's length from nose to tail base, plus room to step in and turn. That is the AAFP/ISFM ratio, so a cat measuring 18 inches needs a box about 27 inches long, and the enclosure's interior has to be longer still. Read the interior figure, not the outside dimensions. For the New Age Pet Litter Loo, whose listing gives the whole piece as 30" × 24" × 28.9", measure the inside on arrival before you commit to a box.
- Will my cat use a litter box inside furniture?
- Many will, but it is not guaranteed. AAFP/ISFM reports that cats are equally divided in their preference for large, covered litter boxes versus uncovered boxes, and the word that carries the weight there is large. The same guidelines warn that small covered boxes may make it difficult for larger cats to posture normally. An enclosure with a cramped compartment is the case to avoid, not enclosures in general.
- Do litter box enclosures stop the smell?
- They move it. An enclosure keeps odor out of the room, but Cornell says covers hold odors in from the cat's side, and VCA links covered-pan odor to infrequent cleaning. Rear ventilation holes, as on the Amunrbrek, the ONBRILL cabinet and the unipaws cabinet, let some air out, and a moisture-resistant build like the New Age Pet ECOFLEX keeps spills from soaking into the furniture. None of that replaces scooping.
- Is a two-cat enclosure a good idea for a multi-cat home?
- Only if the cats already share calmly. AAFP/ISFM warns that in multi-cat households, despot cats may prevent timid cats from accessing or exiting the litter box, and VCA notes a covered pan may let other cats ambush a cat as it exits. Two rooms in one cabinet sit in one spot, so a cat that guards one door can watch both.
- Can I put a self-cleaning litter box inside an enclosure?
- Some enclosures are built for it. The Amunrbrek's listing says its 30-inch-tall interior accommodates most self-cleaning and automatic litter boxes, but check your machine's own dimensions against it before ordering. If you are still choosing the machine, the self-cleaning litter box guide covers large and multi-cat models.
- Are enclosures suitable for kittens or senior cats?
- Check the opening before anything else. Cornell says kittens and elderly cats need boxes with low sides, and an enclosure adds its own threshold on top of the box's rim. Measure how high the cat's opening sits above the floor when the enclosure arrives, and watch how the cat handles the step.
Bottom Line
Get the Amunrbrek Extra Large enclosure when interior space comes first. It has a 27.5"L x 24.8"W x 30"H interior and a 13.8-inch-wide side opening, but it is sideboard-sized and the biggest outlay here.
Get the MEEXPAWS bench for a long box. Its 33.5-inch interior length is the longest here, but its door is only 7.8 inches wide.
Get the Feandrea end table for one cat and a flexible setup. Its compartment runs 19.8 inches with the divider in and 29.7 inches with it out, and the top load drops to 22 lb once the divider is removed.
Get the ONBRILL cabinet for two cats that share calmly. It has two rooms, a dual-entry design and rear ventilation holes, but ask the seller whether the 22-inch interior is per room.
Get the New Age Pet Litter Loo when moisture damage is the worry. The maker says ECOFLEX resists moisture, backs it for 10 years and says it fits most standard and large pans.
Get the unipaws cabinet for one healthy adult cat and a full-size box. Its interior uses nearly the whole width of the piece, with three ventilation holes on the back.
Get the Feandrea cat tree only for a small cat in a small home. Its 21.7" x 16.1" x 15.7" compartment is the smallest on this page.
